Too much “stuff” can clutter your space and make it feel cramped. Because of the high-priced real estate in New York City, space is limited. Here are ways to make your home feel more spacious:
1. Make sure your furniture is in scale with the size of the room. Choose furniture pieces with open legs to make the space feel more open and airy. Chunky casegoods make a room look cramped.
2. Use the space wisely. A coffee table with a hidden storage compartment is a good option.
3. Figure out what’s most important. If you do paperwork often but live alone, you may want a writing desk but not need a full dining area. Bar stools at a kitchen counter could do the trick to save space. If you live in a studio apartment, consider a bed that folds out from a tall cabinet. It can be very modern and funky.
4. Choose a cool color palette. Blues and greens can make a space look larger. Darker colors recede and give the illusion of a bigger room.
