Maya Romanoff's New Showroom in the Chicago Merchandise Mart

I recently discovered textile designer Maya Romanoff at the Donghia Showroom in the Design Center of the Americas. I was enthralled by his use of exciting textures and materials used to create wallcoverings.

Maya Romanoff began his business in 1969 selling tie-dyed shirts at Woodstock. Elton John was among many celebrities that wore his clothes. It wasn't until the 1970's that he experimented with wall and floor coverings.

His Abacadazzle collection is a favorite of mine; it is made from abaca plant fibers woven with metallic threads. Another collection that is absolutely stunning is the Mother of Pearl line; it is made with hand-made inlaid shells.

I am excited to hear about Maya Romanoff's flagship store that recently opened in the Chicago Merchandise Mart. I was born in Chicago and plan to visit in the near future. I cannot wait to check it out!
