Color Splash: Miami

Color Splash: Miami is one of my favorite HGTV shows, and the best part is that it takes place in the city I live and love! Designer David Bromstad adds spice, spunk and splashes of vibrant hues to his projects. He can take an outdated interior disaster and transform it into a gorgeous, unique living space.

Here are some before and after shots:

After:
(The neutral walls against the brown sofa with splashy pops of pink and yellow makes for a chic, happy look. This proves that by changing a few key elements you can make a boring, bulky room beautiful)

(The Moroccan-inspired room is so creative. I love the light fixtures and velvet tufted chaise at the end of the bed. The purples and oranges work great together, and all the accessories are spot on to complete the look)

(I love the large mirror with the animal print frame! The reflection of the dining room makes the room look more spacious. The glass buffet works well and brightens the space)

After:
(The orange artwork, painted by Bromstad himself, on the blue-green walls gives the room a fun, modern feel. The organic chairs add to the fresh look, and the aluminum funky-shaped chandelier finalizes the chic dining area)

For The Love Of Zen

Buddha, bamboo and bark oh my! Zen-inspired decor is extremely hot for Fall. It is seen in young, modern spaces in urban areas.

Designing your space with a zen essence creates a peaceful state of mind; it creates a calm environment. The style is clean and simple with ample transitional space. Earthy tones such as brown, minimalism and bare essentials are key. Pictures of flowers, waterfalls and landscapes, and furniture made of natural woods are used. Bring on the Zen!

2011 Interior Design Trend Forecast

As 2011 quickly approaches, more information about interior design trends is being released. Here are 2011 trend forecasts:

Color: Hues such as pinks, icy grays, royal blue, fuchsia, aged green, amber gold, sand, corals and neons will be reflected in both paint and fabric.

Furniture: Repurposed and recycled furniture and accessories will become increasingly popular, going along with the idea of "Green" living. Artisan one-of-a-kind pieces will be valued more than mass produced furniture.

Finishes & Materials: Distressed finishes will be seen. Light maple, pecan and walnut will be popular wood choices.

Fabrics: Elizabethan-inspired velvets and fabrics from 100% recycled material will be used.

Prints: Mayan, Incan, Hopi and African tribal patterns including geometric florals, trapezoids and primitive portrayals of the sun will be applied to the fabrics of pillows, bedding and draperies. Patterns with a retro flair are hot for 2011.

Lighting: Glass and crystal fixtures that glitter and sparkle will be seen. Natural light will lift the spirit of newly designed rooms.

Walls: Crown moldings and columns will be utilized to dress up rooms, and ceilings will be painted colors other than white.

Trend: Traditional Ethnic Prints With A Twist - Tulu Textiles

Trend: traditional ethnic prints with a twist.

Antique patterns have been revived; traditional prints are being paired with bright, lively colors to give it a fresh, contemporary look.

I recently discovered Tulu Textiles, a high-end textiles, furniture and rug company out of Istanbul, Turkey. The designs are inspired by 16th and 18th century Turkish prints and twisted to achieve a modern, fresh flair. The line of hand blocked prints are absolutely stunning. The antique print gone mod is a major trend in textile design, but this source feels truly authentic as it is crafted in Istanbul and really captures the essence of Turkey! I love!

This fall Jean Paul Gaultier had a new fabulous collection to feature - a haute home decor line in partnership with French designer Roche Bobois.

The line showcases screens, storage units, cushions and seating. Gaultier, a French fashion phenomenon, uses his signature nautical stripes for upholstery. The Mah Jong-inspired sofa is fun, funky and just what you would expect from the renowned fashion icon!

Amused Mosaics

Self-taught Artist Susanne Sorogon of Amused Mosaics creates vivid decorative art mosaics for friends, family, architectural and home settings. Sorogon allows her creativity to pave the way for her artistic journey.

Sorogon began her artistic career experimenting with art forms such as painting, drawing, ceramics, pottery and scrapbooking. "When I was 14, I remember being at a restaurant that had an extravagantly decorated mosaic counter top that ran a long distance around the bar," Sorogon said. The design and art form inspired her, and it was there that she began mosaics.

Abstract colors, unique shapes, textures and movement motivate her work. Sorogon creates mirrors, backsplashes, wall art and counter tops. She works with mediums such as ceramic tiles, vitreous glass, beads and shells; she also incorporates recycled materials into her work.
